OK, great ad and I respect Ted Kennedy. As we all now he is a champion for many causes and has stayed below the radar. But one really big question Ted.
You have lived here in Connecticut for 25 years or so and you vote here.
In the meantime you still have an official residency statuse in Massachusettes. Do you vote there too? You are either a resident with permanent status here or there.
So your endorsement of Lamont is a great endorsement and one that everyone listens to. It will also be the endorsement that will win Ned his party endorsement. But I question your residency and that endorsement for Lamont brings me to question Ned….
Sorry old man, I am still on the fence….

Hartford, CT – June 27, 2010 – Talk about a Tournament that was in the bag for Justin Rose, so everyone thought. Justin Rose led the field going into Sundays Championship round but somewhere his he lost his top game. With only a 4 stroke lead over the top 10 in the field he missed his opportunity while Bubba Watson, Scott Verplank and the rest of the field chased him down.

Bubba Watson, Steve Verplank and Corey Pavin had a three way tie at the 18th sending them into a Sudden Death playoff.

But his drive on 18 hit the cart path, and his ball stopped about 40 yards from the green. He made his birdie that sent him into a playoff at 14-under along with Scott Verplank and Corey Pavin.

On the first playoff hole, Watson hit his approach shot on 18 to within an inch of the cup, but watched as Scott Verplank sank an eight-foot birdie putt to send them back for a second playoff hole.

The next playoff hole sent them both back to the par-three 16th, where Scott Verplank couldn’t find the green, and left his chip about 10 feet short. Verplank missed his putt, challenging Watson to a must needed two-putt for par and the victory. Which is exactly what he did, giving the Florida native his first ever PGA Tour win.

Madeleine was born in May 2003 – a long-awaited and very much longed for little girl. She lives in the village of Rothley in Leicester, with her mummy and daddy and little brother and sister, Sean and Amelie.

Madeleine is a very happy little girl with an outgoing personality. She has always been a very popular little person, appealing to both children and adults alike with her funny and engaging chatter. She has many friends who obviously miss her dearly. Despite her young age, it often felt like Madeleine had been on this earth before.

Like most girls her age, she likes dolls and dresses (and anything pink and sparkly) but with a definite taste for action-adventure too! She has an incredible amount of energy and even as a little baby, didn’t seem to need much rest. She enjoys running and swimming and is an Everton fan like her mum and grandad.

Madeleine has always been a wonderfully loving and caring big sister to Sean and Amelie. It was certainly not the quietest house on the planet with lots of giggling, singing and the inevitable odd bit of mischief! For Sean and Amelie, there is without doubt, a very important person missing in their life.

Madeleine is a warm, life-enriching little person and will never fail we’re sure, to bring joy into the life of anyone she may encounter.

Editors Comment:

Being a parent of 2 young sons I would never leave them alone especially if I were on holiday with them in a foreign country. I think the parents should have been shackled and led off to the local jail to stay there until their child is found. It is sad, they have the funds to buy a vacation home but not the smarts to protect what they consider precious. Their child. All for what… To go have dinner 100 yards away… SHAME ON YOU…
I hope that when they do find your precious Maddie that they put her in a foster home where there are responsible parents that will have more regard for their children then their stomachs…..

Isn’t it just simply confusing that most of the candidates running for office in Connecticut do not put which party they are affiliated with?

Take for instance, Linda McMahon (r) running for the US Senate. Visit her site, www.linda2010.com and see if you can find what party she belongs to. After some digging you will eventually find it.

She is a REPUBLICAN that wants us to return back to the days of the Bush era. She said she is able to put jobs in Connecticut as the Chairman of the WWE (formerly WWF). What she doesn’t say is her husband was the one that built the company and that it was glorified in productions when she was elevated to Chairman. But do not be fooled folks, she was merely the housemaid for a fanatic show.

Lets face it, why would anyone want to go see a staged competition between 2 monstrosities in a roped off ring with fake punches. At least with the octogan (UCF) the blood is real and the punches are real, at least with boxing it is real. But WWE is not real. Neither is her leadership real and I for one do not welcome her to be my Senator.

She has already proven that she is sneaky by not answering a question posted to her website as to which party does she represent. You think she will be forthright in representing us in our US Senate?

I don’t think so.

This was written by Sherry Hackett, wife of the late Buddy Hackett, is a dyed-in-the-wool Democrat.
I would hope that there are many other Democrats who share her position …

President Obama:
Today I read of your administrations’ plan to re-define September 11 as a National Service Day.

Sir, it’s time we had a talk.

During your campaign, Americans watched as you made mockery of our
tradition of standing and crossing your heart when the Pledge of Allegiance
was spoken. You, out of four people on the stage, were the only one not
honoring our tradition.

YES, “We noticed.”

During one of your many speeches, Americans heard you say that you intended to visit all 57 states. We all know that Islam, not America has 57 states.

YES, “We noticed.”

When President Bush leaned over at Ground Zero and gently placed a flower on the memorial, while you nonchalantly tossed your flower onto the pile without leaning over.

YES, “We noticed.”

Every time you apologized to other countries for America ’s position on an issue we have wondered why you don’t share our pride in this great country..
When you have heard foreign leaders berate our country and our beliefs, you have not defended us. In fact, you insulted the British Crown beyond belief.

YES, “We noticed.”

When your pastor of 20 years, “God-damned America ” and said that 9/11 was ” America ’s chickens coming home to roost” and you denied having heard recriminations of that nature, we wondered how that could be. You later disassociated yourself from that church and Pastor Wright because it was politically expedient to do so.

YES, “We noticed.”

When you announced that you would transform America , we wondered why.
With all her faults, America is the greatest country on earth.

Sir, KEEP THIS IN MIND, “if not for America and the people who built her, you wouldn’t be sitting in the White House now.” Prior to yourelection to the highest office in this Country, you were a senator from Illinois and from what we can glean from the records available, not a very remarkable one.

YES, “We noticed.”

All through your campaign and even now, you have surrounded yourself with individuals who are basically unqualified for the positions for which you appointed them. Worse than that, the majority of them are people who, like you, bear no special allegiance, respect, or affection for this country and her traditions.

YES, “We noticed.”

You are 14 months into your term and every morning millions of Americans wake up to a new horror heaped on us by you. You seek to saddle working Americans with a health care/insurance reform package that, along with cap and trade, will bankrupt this nation.

YES, “We noticed.”

We seek, by protesting, to let our representatives know that we are not in favor of these crippling expenditures and we are labeled “un-American”,”racist”, “mob”. We wonder how we are supposed to let you know how frustrated we are. You have attempted to make our protests seem isolated and insignificant. Until your appointment, Americans had the right to speak out.

YES, “We noticed.”

On September 11, 2001 there were no Republicans or Democrats, only Americans. And we all grieved together and helped each other in whatever way we could. The attack on 9/11 was carried out because we are Americans.

And YES, “We noticed.”

There were many of us who prayed that as a black president you could help unite this nation. In six months you have done more to destroy this nation than the attack on 9/11. You have failed us.

YES, “We noticed.”

September 11 is a day of remembrance for all Americans. You propose to make 9/11 a “National Service Day”. While we know that you don’t share our reverence for 9/11, we pray that history will report your proposal as what it is, a disgrace.

YES, “We noticed.”

You have made a mockery of our Constitution and the office that you hold. You have embarrassed and slighted us in foreign visits and policy.

YES, “We noticed.”

We have noticed all these things. We will deal with you. When Americans come together again, it will be to remove you from office.

Take notice.

THIS HAS GOT TO BE PASSED ALONG TO AS MANY
AS POSSIBLE OR WE WILL ALL GO DOWN THE DRAIN
BECAUSE A FEW DON’T CARE.

This English teacher has phrased it the best I’ve seen yet.
Tomatoes and Cheap Labor
This should make everyone think, be you Democrat, Republican or Independent

From a California school teacher – - -
“As you listen to the news about the student protests over illegal immigration, there are some things that you should be aware of:

I am in charge of the English-as-a-second-language department at a large southern California high school which is designated a Title 1 school, meaning that its students average lower socioeconomic and income levels

Most of the schools you are hearing about, South Gate High, Bell Gardens , Huntington Park , etc., where these students are protesting, are also Title 1 schools.

Title 1 schools are on the free breakfast and free lunch program. When I say free breakfast, I’m not talking a glass of milk and roll — but a full breakfast and cereal bar with fruits and juices that would make a Marriott proud. The waste of this food is monumental, with trays and trays of it being dumped in the trash uneaten.

I estimate that well over 50% of these students are obese or at least moderately overweight. About 75% or more DO have cell phones. The school also provides day care centers for the unwed teenage pregnant girls (some as young as 13) so they can attend class without the inconvenience of having to arrange for babysitters or having family watch their kids.

I was ordered to spend $700,000 on my department or risk losing
funding for the upcoming year even though there was little need for anything; my budget was already substantial. I ended up buying new computers for the computer learning center, half of which, one month later, have been carved with graffiti by the appreciative students who obviously feel humbled and grateful to have a free education in America ..

I have had to intervene several times for young and substitute teachers whose classes consist of many illegal immigrant students, here in the country less than 3 months, who raised so much hell with the female teachers, calling them “Putas”(whores) and throwing things, that the teachers were in tears.

Free medical, free education, free food, free day care etc., etc, etc. Is it any wonder they feel entitled to not only be in this country but to demand rights, privileges and entitlements?

To those who want to point out how much these illegal immigrants contribute to our society because they LIKE their gardener and housekeeper and they like to pay less for tomatoes: spend some time in the real world of illegal immigration and see the TRUE costs.

Higher insurance, medical facilities closing, higher medical costs, more crime, lower standards of education in our schools, overcrowding, new diseases. For me, I’ll pay more for tomatoes.

Americans, We need to wake up.

It does, however, have everything to do with culture: It involves an American third-world culture that does not value education, that accepts children getting pregnant and dropping out of school by 15 and that refuses to assimilate, and an American culture that has become so weak and worried about”political correctness” that we don’t have the will to do anything about it.

If this makes your blood boil, as it did mine, forward this to everyone you know.

CHEAP LABOR? Isn’t that what the whole immigration issue is about?

Business doesn’t want to pay a decent wage.

Consumers don’t want expensive produce.

Government will tell you Americans don’t want the jobs.

But the bottom line is cheap labor. The phrase “cheap labor” is a myth, a farce, and a lie. There is no such thing as “cheap labor.”

Take, for example, an illegal alien with a wife and five children. He takes a job for $5.00 or 6.00/hour. At that wage, with six dependents, he pays no income tax, yet at the end of the year, if he files an Income Tax Return, he gets an “earned income credit” of up to $3,200 free.

But then the Huskies took over, scoring 27 of the last 29, and putting away the game. West Virginia scored only once during the final ten minutes of play.

The UConn women have won five out of the last six Big East titles, and 16 Big East titles in school history. They will enter the NCAA tournament unbeaten for the fifth time in school history, and are a sure-fire number one seed going into the tournament.

70% of the legislators in Connecticut drive foreign cars. Now what kind of an good idea does Murphy have..
——————————–

Dear Friends,

I’ve got an idea about how to protect and grow Connecticut’s manufacturing sector and the workers who built it, and it boils down to two words – Buy American.

The federal government spends billions of dollars to buy goods and services, mostly within the defense budget. To me, it is indefensible that a significant portion of that money goes overseas to buy products made by foreign companies. It’s our money! It should be spent here in America, to keep American companies open for business. That’s why I have introduced the 21st Century Buy American Act, which will shift taxpayer dollars away from foreign sources and to American companies and American workers.

You know how tough it is today for Connecticut manufacturers. All across Connecticut and the nation, shops that once bustled with workers who manufactured everything from airplanes to the tools needed to construct them have gone silent. Our defense manufacturing industry has been slowly dwindling, and when those shops went away, thousands of well-paying jobs for hardworking people went with them. In the last three years alone, the United States has shed almost 2 million manufacturing jobs.

So it’s time to strengthen our existing laws that require the federal government, using our tax dollars, to make buying American-made products a priority. The Buy American Act, which governs federal procurement, has been on the books for over 75 years. However, the government has failed to fully enforce and update this important statute, helping to hasten the demise of the heart of our manufacturing base.

The current law, riddled with loopholes, just doesn’t work anymore. Under the existing law, only 50% of a finished good has to be made in America, and when many prime contractors are done applying all the loopholes and exceptions, sometimes as little as one-quarter of a finished product was made here in the U.S. In 2007, the loopholes that we can track resulted in $5.7 billion in taxpayer dollars going to overseas companies. In the same year, Connecticut lost over 3,000 manufacturing jobs. We’ve got to reverse this trend.

So I have introduced legislation in Congress, HR 4553, the 21st Century Buy American Act, that will create jobs, close these loopholes, increase transparency of the exception process, and, most importantly, assist firms that have been hurt by unfair foreign competition.

My bill will:

• Require federal agencies, for the first time, to give a leg-up to bidders for federal contracts that commit to building a large portion of the purchased product here in the United States (in my view, we shouldn’t be outsourcing work when we know we could create jobs here in Connecticut instead!)

• Provide assistance to American companies who are the sole supplier to the federal government of a particular product to make sure they can stay in business (because if they go out of business, the work will go overseas and never come back)

• Increase the minimum percentage of a product that must be made in the U.S. from 50% to 60%. In my view, this change alone could create tens of thousands of U.S. manufacturing jobs.

• Mandate that agencies report, in a public database, what waivers of the domestic sourcing laws they have issued so that American manufacturers have the information necessary to compete for those contracts (the least we can do is make sure this process is transparent so we truly know where our money is going!)

Now is the time for Connecticut to make up some lost ground in manufacturing. But we can’t do it unless the federal government steps up to the plate and stops sending our taxpayer dollars overseas. We’ve got the workforce and the infrastructure to lead the way to reap the benefits of an updated Buy American effort.

I will keep you informed as this effort moves forward, and let me know what you think about Buy American, and any other ideas you may have to help Connecticut’s economy.

Every best wish,

Chris Murphy
